Acupuncture Psoriasis Treatment

Acupuncture psoriasis treatment (reflexology) has been known since antiquity, but its mechanism of action is not fully understood even to this day.

Acupuncture and reflexology act on tiny spots of the skin called acupuncture points or acupoints. Acupoints can be stimulated by special needles made of steel/silver, as well as by acupressure, laser acupuncture, sonopuncture, and other similar methods.

There are all different schools of acupuncture and reflexology, and many different specialists. Depending on the school, a specialist can work on acupoints located on: the wrists (Sujok), the back, along the spine, the neck, the chest (it’s painful), the head (it’s also painful), ears, and so on. Each specialist has their own “exclusive” method.

Some reflexologists say they can help psoriasis sufferers, others say they can’t do anything for psoriasis at all. Some reflexologists / acupuncturists treat psoriasis directly; others try to treat it through calming the nervous system, through fixing the spine, or through treating other things like gastritis, lumbago, liver, kidneys, etc. It’s all very individual.

How long does an acupuncture course take? It can take about 10-15 treatments. Some people complain that such courses are too expensive, while others say that the price is acceptable.

So, what do psoriasis sufferers say about acupuncture psoriasis treatment? They say different things. Some people swear by it. Others say it doesn’t work. Still others say that no one knows the acupoints of psoriasis, and so it’s not clear where to stick a needle. Others say that acupuncture is very dangerous. Still others say that everything depends on the specialist. I will list all types of opinions below.

GOOD Experiences with Acupuncture Psoriasis Treatment

One person says they cured psoriasis with acupuncture (achieved a long-term remission). Another person says they also cured psoriasis with acupuncture within just 1 month. Yet another person says that the doctor worked with the points on their ears to treat their body organs and thus treat psoriasis – they achieved a remission which has so far lasted for one year. Another person says their psoriasis cleared up after just 5 treatments.

NEUTRAL Experiences with Acupuncture Psoriasis Treatment

Some people say that there was no difference in their state whatsoever. Some say that the treatment helped them with their nervous system, body organs, sleep, and so on, but not their psoriasis. Many of these patients say they are ready to try it again with another doctor.

BAD Experiences with Acupuncture Psoriasis Treatment

This section is very important, because some people had very negative experiences with acupuncture psoriasis treatment.

One person only had two plaques on their elbows prior to acupuncture. After a course of acupuncture, they developed new psoriasis spots on each spot where needles were inserted into their skin! First they thought that this flare up shows that it’s working, and that psoriasis will soon go away everywhere. Yet, 1-2 months later, they did not see any improvement. They say that their psoriasis “woke up” throughout the rest of their body and has not gone away ever since.

Another person had a very bad acupuncture and psoriasis experience, even though they were treated in a very good place and saw very positive reviews about this procedure. The needles were placed in their hands and feet, for a course of 10-15 procedures. Psoriasis failed to respond to this therapy. What’s worse, during one of the procedures, the doctor was unfortunate to stick the needles in their foot and wrist causing pain so bad that tears involuntarily poured out of their eyes. The pain in these places did not pass for a couple of days, and they started to have cramping in their wrists and feet, right where the needles were inserted by the doctor. They would have cramps 2-3 times a day. Their doctor said: “Never mind, it will pass! Pain means that we hit psoriasis, and it will start healing now.” Their pain did not subside, and their psoriasis did not leave. 5 years have passed, but they still feel strong pain about once a month, making them jump at night. This person is saying: “There is no way to insure yourself against such accidents. Even awards and good reviews cannot serve as a guarantee”. Their advice is: “Before you decide to use acupuncture, consider all the pros and cons. Even a qualified doctor can make a mistake, stick a needle in the wrong place, and cause a pinched nerve.”

Another person saw bad side-effects like nervousness. Many people say it’s very painful (especially those that had the needles stuck into their scalp and chest), while others say it’s not painful.

As you can see, acupuncture psoriasis treatment is very controversial. It all depends on the specialist’s skills, acupuncture school, the patient’s reaction, and more. Before you try acupuncture for psoriasis, do consider all the pros and cons very carefully.
