Amevive Side Effects
Amevive side effects arise due to this drug being an immunosuppressant, which means that it can increase the risk of infections and reactivate dormant chronic infections.
Amevive Side Effects
The most common mild adverse effects (around 2% of people) with the first course of Amevive:
* Pharyngitis (sore throat, common cold)
* Dizziness
* Cough
* Pruritus (intense itching sensation)
* Myalgia (muscular pain)
* Chills
* Nausea
* Injection-site inflammation
More rare and serious side-effects with the first course of Amevive:
* Lymphopenia (decreased numbers of lymphocytes - a type of white blood cells)
* Malignancies (non-melanoma skin cancers, melanoma, organ malignancies, and lymphomas)
* Serious infections (including the ones requiring hospitalization)
* Hypersensitivity
There have also been reports of liver injury, including fatty infiltration of the liver, hepatitis, and acute liver failure. Liver injuries were noted to be linked to alcohol use at the time of treatment.
Data on the safety and efficacy of Amevive beyond two courses are limited.
The side effects generally decreased or remained the same with the second course of treatment.
Amevive should not be administered to patients with HIV, with a history of systemic malignancy, serious infections, or to patients receiving other immunosuppressive drugs or phototherapy.
Amevive should be discontinued if the event of any malignancy, serious infection, or signs of liver injury.
The Most Common Reactions and Amevive Side Effects
Amevive is generally well tolerated. The most common reaction in clinical studies were chills that would occur soon after the first or the second injection, but these chills were generally too mild to cause the discontinuation of the course. This Amevive side effect generally occurred with intravenous (IV) administration.
The most common reasons for the discontinuation of the drug were: low T lymphocyte levels, nausea (0.2%), and headache (0.2%).
Clinical and actual practice is different from one another, but they are similar enough to inform you about the possible Amevive side effects that you may expect.
Serious liver injury has been reported in patients receiving Amevive. Let your physician know about any nausea, fatigue, vomiting, jaundice, abdominal pain, easy bruising, pale stools or dark urine.
