Dead Sea Salt Psoriasis Treatment

The Dead Sea is great for psoriasis, but not everyone can take advantage of it – the trip is costly and lengthy (3-4 weeks). However, there’s an alternative – Dead Sea salt psoriasis treatment.

Dead Sea salt is a concentrated mixture of all the minerals that are present in Dead Sea water. This salt can help relieve skin inflammation, cleanse and soothe the skin, and improve its overall state. The baths can also help to treat such disorders as: psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, acne, as well as arthritis). They help increase blood circulation, soothe the nervous system, revitalize the body, and stimulate the immune system. In addition, they can help people with allergies.

Let’s talk about the Dead Sea salt psoriasis treatment in more detail. It has long been known that the Dead Sea can provide relief for this incurable disease, but it was unknown whether the use of baths with Dead Sea salts would have a similar effect.

One Israeli dermatologist decided to study the effect of Dead Sea salts on patients with psoriasis in 1989. The treatment was tested on 50 patients. After the treatment, 47 patients out of 50 (94%) had significant relief. The maximum result was obtained when the patients took baths with 1kg (2 pounds) of salt 3 times a week for 6 weeks in a row.

Here’s how Dead Sea salt can be used for psoriasis treatment (baths) and psoriatic arthritis treatment (wraps):

Salt Baths: take a shower with soap. Fill the tub with hot water, dissolve the salt (up to 1kg/2lbs), and lie in the bath for 15-20 minutes. After the bath, rinse under the shower. Stay warm and rest for about 1 hour. The baths can be taken 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

Salt Wraps: mix 2-3 tablespoons of salt with 1 liter (4 cups) of warm water. Find a piece of thick fabric for the wrap. Place the fabric into the salt water, wring it out and wrap around the affected area. Wrap cellophane on top of the fabric. Wrap a woolen blanket on top and leave for 25-30 minutes. Take a warm shower. Stay warm and rest for about 1 hr. The wraps are usually applied onto the joints, to help with psoriatic arthritis. They can also be used 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

Contraindications: the Dead Sea salt psoriasis baths are contraindicated with open wounds. No other contraindications are known, but do consult with your doctor before trying either of these procedures.
