Psoriasis Nutrition

Everyone  is well aware of the importance of nutrition for overall general health. What about the people that suffer from Psoriasis, and proper psoriasis nutrition? Do people with psoriasis need a specialized diet? Can people with this disease use nutrition as a way to treat their “P”, and reduce their symptoms and outbreaks by following proper psoriasis nutrition?

As most psoriasis sufferers know, this disease is a disease from within, and most of us claim that eating the proper foods will go a long way in reducing or eliminating our flare-ups.

As psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, as well as an inflammatory disease, what we don't want to do is trigger our immune system in a negative way, by eating the foods that will create an inflammation in our bodies. What we want to do is eat the foods that reduce the inflammation in our bodies.

Some of the main culprits for triggering inflammation include: red meat, refined flour, sugar, alcohol and many others.

Some of the anti-inflammatory foods that many people swear by, and studies suggest do help are: fish (especially fish high in Omega-3, such as salmon), most fruits and vegetables, garlic, and pineapples, just to name a few.

The main objective in psoriasis nutrition is to avoid the foods completely that have had an adverse effect on your psoriasis, as well as the ones mentioned above. Drinking a proper amount of water, and keeping yourself properly hydrated has also been noted for helping to keep flare-ups at bay.

As the saying goes, “You Are What You Eat”, and by eating non-inflammatory foods, it could mean less flare-ups.
