Doctor Fish Psoriasis Treatment
What is Doctor Fish?
Dr. Fish are 2 types of Cyprinidae (Carp) species:
- "Cyprinion macrostomus" - the striker, with a body length up to 20 cm, with a terminal mouth (the mouth points forward).
- "Garra rufa obtusa" (aka reddish log sucker) - the licker, with a body length up to 19cm, with a ventral mouth (the mouth is positioned toward and on the belly).
Garra rufa naturally occurs in the river basins of the Northern and Central Middle East (Turkey, Syria etc.).
Doctor Fish is also known as: Kangal Fish, Nibble Fish, Doctorfishen and Little Dermatologists.
This Fish therapy is also sometimes called "Ichtyotherapy".
So what can you do with a Fish? Eat it? Or take it as an omega supplement in a form of Fish oil?
Well, it is the other way around with Doctor Fish.
In the case of Doctor Fish you let the Fish eat you!
What happens is that this Fish eats the scales off the skin of the people with psoriasis.
Dr. Fish:
- Feeds on your dead and "useless" skin to promote new skin growth,
- Gives you a micro-massage,
- Clears skin pores.
Why would a Fish eat the psoriatic scales? Because the Fish is kept hungry! The water in the pools with fish (where you would also have to stay for hours) is kept at plus 36 degrees Celsius (98.6F). This high water temperature can not provide enough of the nutrients for the fish.
Doctor Fish is an omnivorous Fish - it means that it can eat both - plant-like plankton and animal-like plankton.
So, when the Fish is hungry, it will also ingest the dead human skin.
Will it damage your healthy skin? Not at all, or should I say - not really. The Fish will only eat the soft dead skin since it's easy to nibble on. There sometimes might appear tiny bleeding on the spots where the Fish nibbles on the scales, however it is not painful and disappears very fast.
Dr. Fish nibbling is similar to a micro-massage of the skin, which renders a very pleasant sensation of relaxation. This may be ticklish at first, but becomes pleasant very fast.
This micro-massage may be an additional positive psychological and physiological component of the overall Dr. Fish treatment. The massage creates a feeling of well-being.
Dr. Fish is especially beneficial for psoriasis sufferers who have Plaque or Guttate psoriasis.
People with Erythrodermic or Pustular psoriasis might experience discomfort and even pain while the fish nibbles on their skin.
Dr. Fish psoriasis treatment has only a temporary effect.
However, this type of an alternative psoriasis treatment can provide you with a very long remission starting with a few months and up to a few years. Dr. Fish helps many people to keep their psoriasis in remission for a much longer time than some other psoriasis treatments such as topical steroids etc.
How Does Doctor Fish Psoriasis Treatment Work?
You have to stay in the pool with the Fish for a total of 8 hours a day - usually 2 times by 4 hours.
At the same time you get the benefits of ultraviolet with sun tanning.
You should do it for 21 days in a row.
End result - your psoriasis is gone or almost gone and usually for a very long time (may be months or even years).
