Eczema Psoriasis Difference, Similarities

Eczema psoriasis difference is large; however, there are many similarities between these two disorders as well. Following I will explain two differences between eczema and psoriasis – the visual difference and the difference in causes.

Visual Eczema Psoriasis Difference

Visually, psoriasis is drier than eczema. The pinkish psoriatic patches are covered with very dry white scales. The lesions rarely ooze, if ever. This is unless the person is itching and scratching their lesions, which can cause droplets of blood and some oozing appear on their skin.

Eczema is characterized by encrusted and scaly vesicular lesions. Eczema is generally more moist and oozy. However, some people can have dry patches of eczema as well. The color of lesions is usually of a more pronounced red shade than in psoriasis. Finally, eczema itches much more than psoriasis.

Positional Eczema Psoriasis Difference

Psoriasis tends to appear on rougher areas of skin, such as elbows, knees, legs, feet, arms, hands, and back. The scalp is often affected as well, especially the hairline. The lesions can often also appear on and around the years. On the face, lesions usually affect areas around the nose and the eyebrows.

Eczema usually appears on more delicate skin areas, such as face, around the eyes, around the mouth, cheeks, forehead, wrists, neck, chest, and the backs of hands. The scalp is often affected as well, but not the way that you can trace it on the hairline like in case of psoriasis.

Eczema and Psoriasis - Different Causes

The causes of both disorders are quite mysterious.

Eczema can be caused by allergies (especially in children), but not always. It often appears in atopic people – those genetically predisposed to allergic reactions, hypersensitivity, asthma, allergic rhinitis, hay fever, etc. In these people, contacting microbes or chemical agents can cause skin reaction. In other cases, the cause of eczema is unknown.

Psoriasis is even more complex and mysterious than eczema. Scientists have come up with at least 9 Psoriasis Theories, and many tend to combine a few of these theories into one. The cause of psoriasis can be genetic predisposition, problems with digestive tract, immune system, and so on.

Similarities of Eczema and Psoriasis

As you can see, eczema psoriasis difference is quite large. However, they have many similarities as well. Both disorders can develop at any age. Both can be triggered by stress and bad diet. Both disorders generally react very well to narrowband UVB light. As of today, both disorders are incurable.

Some people have both conditions at once and some scientists believe that the causes of both disorders are tightly connected.
