Psoriasis on Genitals

Psoriasis on genitals is common for all ages and genders. Specific locations of psoriasis on genitals include:

Pubic Area (Pubis)

The Pubic area is the area right above the genitals. Here psoriasis looks like red and scaly patches, which often itch. You can treat this area similar to your scalp, but with more caution, because the skin in this area is very thin, and it's in a close proximity to your genitalia.

Upper Thighs and Creases

Psoriasis on the upper thighs is more likely to be small, scaly, and itchy. Here psoriasis develops and gets worse because of the friction between the thighs.

Creases between groin and thighs - psoriasis here is non-scaly, reddish and itchy.

Genitals (Vagina and Penis)

Vaginal psoriasis is generally not too scaly but is itchy. Itching your skin in this area may sometimes cause bleeding and thickening of the psoriatic plaques.

Penis psoriasis shows up as small vividly red patches on the shaft and/or the Glans of the penis, and sometimes the scrotum also gets affected. The patches may be either shiny and smooth, or scaly. Both - circumcised and uncircumcised men can develop psoriasis of the penis.

Vaginal psoriasis and penile psoriasis is known to "spare" the urethra.

Anus Area

Anus psoriasis is located around the anus, and is red, itchy, and usually non-scaly. Anal psoriasis can be misdiagnosed with pin-worm, yeast infection, and hemorrhoids. If these conditions are also present, the treatment should be at first directed towards treating any other present condition, which may also help treating anus psoriasis. In order to find out whether you have any of the above conditions also present, you should try to undergo a rectal examination and skin cultures. Anal psoriasis can cause bleeding and have strong itching.

Buttocks crease (butt crack) - butt crack psoriasis usually is very red, and sometimes very scaly.

Psoriasis on genitals is very unpleasant, uncomfortable and bothersome. However, it's also one of the easiest locations to treat since the skin in this area is very thin and soft.
