How Does Psoriasis Start?
Psoriasis is a genetic condition. In brief, a person’s skin cells divide several times faster than they should. It is believed that only a person with a “psoriasis gene” can develop this condition. Many people live with this “gene” without knowing it and may never develop it. This condition may not surface within the family for generations. Second, we need a trigger, such as: severe stress, hormonal changes, bad diet, skin trauma, infection, etc. I believe that in Kim’s case, it was stress. However, I don’t know enough about Kim Kardashian psoriasis to say for sure.
Is Psoriasis Contagious?
So, is it contagious? This is a funny question for someone who had it for as long as I did and who created a 300-page site about it... But there are still people who don’t know, so: “No, psoriasis isn’t contagious”. It’s estimated that almost 3% of the world population have psoriasis.
How Is Psoriasis Treated?
There are hundreds of medicines, but many of them either don’t work or have scary side effects. The most helpful treatment method for the majority of sufferers is UVB – ultraviolet light B. I have been using it for several years and it keeps me virtually psoriasis-free. Another unfortunate celebrity with psoriasis – LeAnn Rhymes – was helped by injections of biologics (a very new and expensive drug, but extremely helpful at the same time).
Being a good-looking 30 year-old and a psoriasis sufferer for the last 15+ years, I empathize with Kim deeply. Even though she heard about psoriasis before (her mom Kris Jenner has it), it must have been an awful shock to hear the dermatologist say that this condition is incurable... When I heard those words, I was only 14. It was a huge shocker for my mom and I. Kim mentioned that her sisters thought her condition to be ringworm and tried to embarrass her... There’s a chance that Kourtney or Khloe could develop it as well at some point in their lives. So, I believe that they should be more thoughtful and sympathetic about Kim Kardashian psoriasis.
To Kim: Don’t let psoriasis bother you. You have the funds to keep it 100% under control. Work with your doctor and try the latest treatments.
