Saturated Fat

Saturated fat means a "full" fat, a fat that is completely soaked with a certain substance.

The Richest in Saturated Fat are:

  • fatty dairy products (cream, cheese and butter),
  • animal fats (fatty meat, lard etc.),
  • coconut oil,
  • cottonseed oil,
  • palm kernel oil,
  • chocolate etc.

Dietary Intake of Saturated Fat:

We get enough, and usually even more than enough of Saturated Fat in our diet, therefore further increasing the content of Saturated Fat will not do anything good for our overall health and for our psoriasis in particular.

Further increasing the Saturated Fat in our diets will only result in even higher abnormal levels of the Saturated Fat in our bodies.

Saturated fat can not get saturated by anything else when inside our bodies, i.e. it can not get saturated by bad cholesterol in order to remove it from our bodies.

Topical Application of Saturated Fat:

As an example of a product rich in Saturated Fat let's take Coconut Oil. Coconut oil consists of about 90% Saturated Fat.

Largely due to its high Saturated Fat content, Coconut oil is excellent as a moisturizer and softener for psoriatic skin.

Extra virgin coconut oil is also very effective as mineral oil when used as a moisturizer for psoriasis.
