Penis Psoriasis Treatment and scrotal psoriasis treatment - what can be done? In fact, there are at least 9 good treatments that you may try:
1. UVB
UVB is a good but somewhat dangerous treatment option. UVB is basically "synthetic sun". The sun has 3 main types of ultraviolet rays - A, B, and C, while a UVB lamp incorporates solely the least dangerous (least deep) and the most beneficial for psoriasis ray - B-ray. In fact, there are men who have managed to get rid of their genital psoriasis solely with the sunlight. For instance, one man, who was suffering from his genital psoriasis, and did not want to constantly use a topical steroid cream, decided to move to a location with a better climate - Florida. This person has finally moved to Florida and started to go to a nudist beach regularly. Spending an hour in the sun has basically helped eliminate any signs of his genital psoriasis. Florida does not just have lots of sun and warm temperature, but this area is also very humid, and the humidity is known to help some people with psoriasis, since it naturally moisturizes your skin. This person is still using a topical steroid cream, but not too often anymore, because most of his genital psoriasis is being healed by the sun.
Not everyone can move to a better place, and not everyone can find a nudist beach nearby. That's why there's UVB - your personal boosted sun. If you decide to try treating your penis psoriasis with UVB, you simply need to be very careful - it's better to go slow but to avoid any burns!
2. Mild Topical Steroids
Mild topical steroids will promptly get rid of your penis psoriasis, which is especially helpful to prepare for sexual intercourse. You may want to try a 1% Hydrocortisone cream for a couple weeks in a row, which helps most men temporarily get rid of any signs of their penis psoriasis.
Try not to use potent steroids, and even mild ones for long periods of time. The side-effects of a prolonged use of potent topical steroids are: inflammation, irreversible skin atrophy and stretch marks.
3. Vytone Cream 1%
Vytone Cream 1% contains Hydrocortisone plus another important ingredient - Iodoquinol. Iodoquinol also possesses antifungal and antibacterial properties, which may be the reason why this cream helps some men even better than a pure Hydrocortisone medicine. However, since this cream also has topical steroid - Hydrocortisone, you should allow some time in between the treatment sessions.
4. Protopic and Elidel
Protopic (Tacrolimus - approved by FDA in 1994) and Elidel (Pimecrolimus - approved by FDA in 2001) are two topical immunosuppressive drugs that offer excellent help with penis psoriasis treatment and scrotal psoriasis treatment. These drugs suppress the activity of the T-cells, which positively effects psoriasis. Further, the above agents do not possess any of the side-effects of the topical steroids, such as irreversible skin thinning, stretch marks, etc.
These two medications work great on any thin skin, including penis, scrotum, armpits, and face.
6. Antifungals
Since the skin of the genital area is soft, moist, and it's in a close proximity to the anus, penis and scrotum psoriasis may become a place where bacteria and infections can easily start to accumulate.
Even though an antifungal may not work for everyone, they are probably worth a try. Antifungal creams and tablets include: Lamisil (Terbinafine) and Nizoral (Ketoconazole). It's better to consult your doctor, especially if you want to try an oral dose of an antifungal for your penis psoriasis treatment and scrotal psoriasis treatment.
7. Coal Tar
Coal tar either works or it does not and of course you will not know until you try. Some men have noted improvement in their genital psoriasis with the use of coal tar medications (you can learn more about Coal Tar Treatments here).
Coal tar does have an unpleasant smell, but it can be easily washed off.
Try not to use potent coal tar medicines on this sensitive area, as they may further irritate the skin.
8. Dermazinc Spray
Dermazinc Spray is on over-the-counter medication that's known to work well for penis psoriasis treatment and scrotal psoriasis treatment. This medicine is generally used for treating dandruff and seborrheic scalp dermatitis, but it also works great for psoriasis.
Main ingredient - zinc pyrithione, is probably why this medication helps people with psoriasis. Several applications of this medication may help to get rid of redness, scaling and itching on the groin.
9. Dovonex
Dovonex is yet another medicine that works very well on thin and tender skin. Dovonex contains synthetic Vitamin D that helps to slow down the T-cells' activation. The results of its application vary - some people experience long-lasting improvement of their penis psoriasis, while others - only a temporary improvement.
As you can see, there are quite a few things that you can try for your penis psoriasis treatment and scrotal psoriasis treatment, and the best thing is that practically any treatment will work fast since the skin on the groin area is very thin.
