Re-PUVA

Re-PUVA-therapy is a procedure, which combines the use of Photo-Chemotherapy (PUVA) and one of the following medicines: the synthetic Retinoids orally (that is why it is abbreviated as Re-PUVA-therapy), Cytostatics, or Corticosteroids.

Therefore they use the following combined Re-PUVA therapies:

  • PUVA + Cytostatics (suppresses the growth and multiplication of cells)
  • PUVA + Corticosteroids (reduces irritation and inflammation)
  • PUVA + Aromatic Retinoids (regulates epithelial cell growth)

Re-PUVA-therapy significantly decreases the probability of occurrence of side effects as this method makes it possible to reduce both - the quantity of PUVA-therapy sessions and the dosage of the medicine (i.e. the dose of Neotigason etc.).

The designation of such combined therapy methods is justified only by the severity of the psoriatic process.
