We drink a cup of coffee or tea without even thinking about that we have just achieved a near phyto-therapeutic effect. Coffee and tea increase the heart rate, i.e., these plants have an explicit effect on our body. Hence just one step is left towards the phyto-therapy - the use of plants for an improvement in the functioning of the body and for dealing with various diseases including psoriasis.
Phyto-therapist should first know the correct diagnosis in order to assign correct treatment. Something similar to bronchitis may prove to be tuberculosis or even lung cancer - diseases, which can not be treated by herbs alone. After a phyto-therapist or another doctor establish the diagnosis, they should work together in order to prescribe herbs and, if necessary, common medicines. Phytotherapy and chemical medicines are often compatible, but some herbs should not be combined with some synthetic preparations. For example, St. John's Wort suppresses the action of some medicines for heart, for blood circulation and for immune deficiency. A patient can not independently select the right combinations without consulting with a phyto-therapist and a regular doctor.
Blind self-treatment with herbs conceals huge risks.
Herbs should be used only on the advice and prescription of a doctor, who knows their properties and toxicity and who can correctly determine the dosage. An infusion and essential oil of the same plant possess different properties. Only a good phyto-therapist doctor can determine the most effective form and dosage of a plant in order to prescribe a specific treatment.
