Alcohol-Psoriasis Interrelation is sometimes visible even after the consumption of small amounts of alcohol.
It is not surprising - alcohol is a toxic poison for the liver; and the livers' function is the neutralization of various toxic substances in the body. Alcohol is capable of deteriorating the neutralizing function of the liver due to its high toxicity.
In the body alcohol almost immediately starts to deteriorate various biochemical processes, i.e. the metabolism (see Metabolic Psoriasis Theory) etc.
The incompletely oxidized alcohol remainders (metabolites) stay in the brain, the liver, the heart, the nerves, the stomach and other body organs for up to 15 days.
With repeated drinking binges, alcohol metabolites are detained in the internal organs of a human for even longer periods of time. The consequences of alcohol metabolites accumulation are very negative.
Alcohol worsens the course of psoriasis and contributes to the expansion of the psoriatic lesions.
In the worst scenario alcohol may lead to Erythrodermic Psoriasis.
With Erythrodermic Psoriasis there appear multiple bright red lesions, which then merge, covering almost the entire skin. Skin becomes red, inflamed and starts scaling and peeling, accompanied by severe itching and pain. The general state sharply worsens, the body temperature rises to 100°F-102°F (38-39 °C). In extremely rare cases Erythrodermic Psoriasis can be fatal.
All of the above indicates a very clear alcohol-psoriasis interrelation.
