We get 11 main Psoriasis Causes:

1. Stress and Mental Trauma

   Stress tends to use up all the bodies resources, and also to suppress the immune system. This means that the body is not functioning correctly. Some might develop sudden heart attacks or strokes with stress if they have such a pre-disposition. For people with psoriasis it will be psoriasis.

2. "Happy Stress"

   "Happy Stress" is also stress. If you get excited because of a "Happy Stress" or "Good Stress" or "Positive Stress", there will also be certain chemicals reactions in your body. Your heart starts beating fast, your adrenalin levels surge, you are aroused, your breathing rate increases, you may perspire more etc. Good chemicals like endorphin, serotonin and dopamine are produced by our bodies and do all sorts of good things for our systems. 3. Physical Trauma

   Physical Trauma is that trigger that will start a skin reaction.

4. Infections

   Infections may divert the body resources away from looking after the normal body functions. Instead of maintaining the ideal functioning of organs, the body will be busy fighting the infection. Infections are a stress on the physical body.

5. Climate change

   Any abrupt change may be dangerous for the body as it is something unexpected, new and somewhat foreign. The same is true with the change of the climate. If your body was adjusted to a warm climate and you move to a cold one - it may cause Stress and Psoriasis as a result, also, with moving from a dry climate to a moist one, or from a moist climate to dry etc.

6. Bad Diet or Diet Change

   Atkins diet and alcohol both put a lot of extra pressure on the liver. And the connection of the liver function with psoriasis was noted long ago.

7. Hormonal Change

   Pregnancy is a hormonal change. Same is true with puberty and menopause. Hormonal change is a stress for the body. Also with pregnancy more resources are being focused on the baby leaving the mother more vulnerable. Pregnancy is also a stress on the emotional level.

8. Drugs

   Drugs usually have very potent components. A potent component may cause various side-effects, including triggering psoriasis.

9. Allergy

   Allergy is a negative reaction to some sort of substance (i.e. mold, pollen, fruits etc.). An allergy in a way is similar to an infection - the body sees that something is wrong and starts dealing more with fixing it rather than maintaining the perfect homeostasis (perfectly balanced body functioning). This causes certain negligence to the rest of the body processes and thus may also trigger psoriasis.

10. Unexplained Appearance

    Frequently psoriasis appears without any visible reason or with a reason that does not make any sense, i.e. working out, swimming etc. In my opinion the so-called Unexplained Appearance may be also connected with genetics.

11. Genetics - Probably the underlying of them all

    Many people with psoriasis (30-60%) have other members of their family with psoriasis. It seems to be one of the most reliable explanations of psoriasis. First of all - you have to have a genetic predisposition. Second - you need a provoking factor: stress, mental trauma, "happy stress", physical trauma, infections, climate change, diet or diet change, hormonal shift, drugs, or allergy. Therefore a genetic link is an important one that underlies all of the rest of them. The genetic link is what makes us first all vulnerable particularly to developing psoriasis (instead of, say, stroke or a heart attack etc. - I would prefer psoriasis out of those two). In the case of an unexplained reason genetics make even more sense. Because it is hard to explain it any other way when there is no reason.
