Psoriasis in Children seems to develop more often nowadays than it used to in the past. There are even cases of infants with psoriasis.
Does Psoriasis in Children Have Any Special Features?
There was conducted a study in order to research the factors, which facilitated the appearance of psoriasis in 250 children of up to 14 y/o:
- in 25% of the cases it was stress;
- in 23% of the cases it were infectious and chronic infectious diseases (tonsillitis, influenza, strep throat, respiratory infections etc.);
- in 18% of the cases it was skin traumas (burns, scratches, pricks etc.);
- in 16% of the cases it was hypothermia (prolonged low temperatures, freezing);
- in 12% of the cases it were vaccinations, bad diet, the diseases of the Gastrointestinal tract and the unknown factors.
The flare ups of psoriasis in children in the autumn were noted in 30% of the children.
At the pre-school age psoriatic lesions more frequently were located in the skin folds and on the scalp and more rarely - on the elbows and knees.
Many people note that the infections of the upper respiratory tract can frequently become a trigger for the Psoriasis Appearance in a child. Therefore try to always make sure that your child is dressed warm, and also avoid being around people that are ill with infectious diseases.
There is a lot of information on the vaccinations, both positive (i.e. it helps to protect the child from the infections, which may trigger psoriasis), and negative (i.e. the vaccination itself may be the trigger of psoriasis).
See Vaccine-Psoriasis Interrelation for more information.
