Evening Primrose Oil Psoriasis Treatment

Topical Evening Primrose Oil psoriasis treatment shows good results for some psoriasis sufferers.

Evening Primrose Oil capsules in a form of a dietary supplement may also help with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis treatment.

Both the topical and the internal benefits of the Evening Primrose Oil seem to originate from its markedly high content of the Gamma-Linolenic (GLA) fatty acid. GLA fights inflammation, which is very beneficial for psoriasis.

However, there were not conducted any extended studies about Evening Primrose Oil for psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis treatment, and the smaller studies did not reveal any significant effect of the Evening Primrose Oil with psoriasis treatment. The FDA has not reviewed Evening Primrose Oil for its safety and health benefits.

Evening Primrose Oil Psoriasis Treatment

Evening Primrose Oil psoriasis remedies are widely available in pharmacies, health food stores, or online shops.

You may consider taking two 500-mg Evening Primrose Oil capsules a day, and/or applying the Evening Primrose Oil topically 1-2 times a day onto the areas affected by psoriasis.

The noticeable results are not expected for months, so do persevere with your Evening Primrose Oil psoriasis treatment.

Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) in the Evening Primrose Oil

Evening Primrose Oil has about 80% of the Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) - this is the highest amount of GLA found in any food substance.

GLA was first found in the Evening Primrose seed oil in 1919.

A study published in 1987 in the British Journal of Dermatology showed that Evening Primrose Oil had significantly improved the dryness and the flakiness of the skin after treatment.

GLA is also obtained from other vegetable oils, such as blackcurrant seed oil, borage oil and hemp seed oil, with borage oil being the most concentrated form.

Gamma-Linolenic Acid is an Omega-6 fatty acid. The human body produces GLA from the Essential Omega-6 Linoleic Acid (LA), found in various food products. However, a lack of GLA can occur as people grow older, with specific dietary deficiencies or in some disease states.

Although GLA is a type of acid which is pro-inflammatory, it miraculously has anti-inflammatory properties.

GLA has anti-inflammatory properties and no side effects common for other anti-inflammatory drugs.

From Gamma-Linolenic Acid our body forms eicosanoids - messenger molecules of the Central Nervous System, which participate in inflammation and immunity regulation.

Precautions

Evening Primrose Oil is usually well tolerated, but in rare cases it may cause mild Gastrointestinal tract troubles, such as indigestion etc.
