Our brain is probably our most important "sex organ".
People with psoriasis tend to have a lowered self-esteem and a lowered self-confidence, and therefore their "most important sex organ" is already affected.
What differs a person with psoriasis from the people without skin problems? People with psoriasis feel inferior. They feel even more inferior as compared to the people with such skin problems, as acne and eczema due to the lack of a public awareness of psoriasis.
Psoriasis makes you reluctant to undress in front of the other people and of course reluctant to pet or to have sex.
I have had psoriasis since I was 14.
I remember well, that when I was just starting my first romantic relationships, I did not even allow any petting while kissing, as I was ashamed of the "bumps" on my skin.
In my first actual relationship (I was about 18) almost half a year had passed until I first had sex with the lights on. The sex with the lights on was preceded by a very emotional explanation with tears from my side, about that I have psoriasis. My partner understood me, but it was still very hard for me - both to confess and then to start having sex with the lights on. As a matter of fact, I still prefer having sex with the lights off.
Psoriasis impacts our sex life usually due to our overall lowered self-image, and not because of psoriasis located particularly on the genitalia. However, for some people their genital psoriasis also causes physical discomfort in addition to the psychological discomfort. Genital psoriasis may actually get worse with sex, but psoriasis everywhere else usually actually gets better after sex.
Why may psoriasis get better with regular sexual activity?
I have put together the Benefits of Sex for the Skin, and Psoriasis in particular on Page 5 of the current section.
