Skin Trauma and Psoriasis

Any Skin Trauma can cause the appearance of psoriatic lesions in the place of skin damage in the people, predisposed to psoriasis.

Psoriasis is characteristic of the so-called Koebner phenomenon - the appearance of fresh psoriatic lesions on the spot of a skin trauma, as well as the appearance of itch on those fresh lesions.

Therefore, it is better to try to avoid the irritations of the skin.

Occupation has a great significance in the prevention of psoriasis. It is undesirable for the people with psoriasis to work at elevated temperatures and humidity. Harmful chemical substances should also be avoided. People that have psoriasis should not opt for the professions, connected with a constant trauma to the skin.

  • surgical cuts;
  • burns (thermal, chemical, electrical etc.);
  • sun burns;
  • scratches;
  • pricks;
  • friction of the skin in the region of large joints (elbows, knees);
  • ear and nose piercing;
  • tattooing;
  • friction caused by tight underwear and cloths;
  • scalp, traumatized by a comb;
  • rigid washcloths etc.
