The prevalence of psoriasis in general population varies from 0.1% to 8%.

According to psoriasis stats from various resources, about 2-3% of general population on the Planet Earth suffers from psoriasis. In other words, approximately 120 - 180 million people have psoriasis!

It is interesting to note that the more developed the country, the higher the percentage of people with psoriasis. About 4% of the population in the most developed countries suffers from psoriasis. Exceptions are Japan and Australia.

In some places on Earth psoriasis is VERY RARE. For example, the incidence of this skin disease in Japan and China is less than 1%. The same is true for psoriasis in the Eskimos and Native Americans.

In North America, England, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden, psoriasis reaches 3-5%, while in South America, Africa, and Australia it is extremely rare.

Statistically, there are 2 age peaks when psoriasis is likely to start: 13-25 year olds and 50-60 year olds.

The greatest risk to develop Psoriatic Arthritis is at age 30-50 (more than 70%).

In childhood, girls get psoriasis a bit more often than boys; in adulthood, men get psoriasis a bit more often than women.

On the whole, this skin disorder is equally common in both - males and females.

Family history of psoriasis was found in 30-60% of patients.

If healthy parents have a child with psoriasis, the probability of this disorder in their other children is about 17%.

If one of the parents has psoriasis, the probability of this disorder in their children is about 25%.

If both parents have psoriasis, the probability of this disorder in their children is about 60-75%.

Plaque Psoriasis is encountered in about 80% (the most common type of psoriasis).

Psoriatic Arthritis is encountered in about 5-30%.

Palmoplantar psoriasis is encountered in about 10%.

According to contemporary data, the prevalence of psoriasis is increasing. This can be explained by pollution, fast pace of life, stress, etc.

In the last quarter-century:

- the number of young people with psoriasis has increased.

- the number of people with psoriasis in combination with diabetes, stomach disorders, emotional disorders, and obesity, has increased.

The number of people with psoriasis among other skin disorders is 2%-10% (e.g., in France it's about 4%).

Approximately 60% of people with psoriasis also have disorders of carbohydrate metabolism.

The risk of developing psoriasis skin disease is about 2-3%.
