Toxins and Psoriasis Theory

Further it is presented the point of view on the connection of Toxins and Psoriasis by a well-known osteopath John O. A. Pagano, D.C. Pagano formed his psoriasis concept on the basis of his more than 20-years of practice. The intoxicating concept by John Pagano has numerous followers and supporters throughout the world.

Pagano considers that psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder, directly connected with the state of the bowels and intestines. Pagano believes that in people with psoriasis the toxins are capable of penetrating through the bowels and intestinal walls into the Circulatory Systems (cardiovascular system, distributing blood, and the lymphatic system, distributing lymph) - the so-called "Leaky Gut Syndrome". The liver and kidneys cease to manage their purifying function, and psoriasis appears as the external manifestation of the body's attempt to get rid of the internal toxins.

Auto-intoxication is actually a very old theory. It is based on the assumption, that intestinal toxins can penetrate into the blood and lymph circulation and to poison the body. According to this theory a wide range of substances (i.e. in food) act as the pathologic agents. Before the beginning of the 20th century auto-intoxication was widely acknowledged and there were proposed different therapies (such as the Colon Hydrotherapy etc.). Not supported by scientific proof, the concept of auto-intoxication was practically forgotten several decades ago. However this theory is becoming popular again due to a large volume of new data about the intestinal disorders and excessive intestinal permeability.

The concept of auto-intoxication considers the intestinal permeability as a primary factor in the development of psoriasis. According to this point of view, different reasons lead to the "thinning" of the walls of the small intestine. This thinning makes it possible for the toxins in the bowels to penetrate into the circulatory systems and thus to "find" their way to the skin surface. Then the toxins are removed through the skin. The body starts attacking the skin through which the toxins are removed thus causing the psoriatic plaques appearance.

Autoimmune diseases are caused by the abnormal excitement of the body immune defenses. This may lead to the Autoimmune Aggression (see Autoimmune Psoriasis Theory), when the healthy body cells are attacked by the immune system. With psoriasis the particular immune defenders - T-cells - are activated and remain switched on, which forces the skin to constantly restore itself. The particular trigger which activates the T-cells is unknown. They assume that some antigens, a bacterial or virus infection and other factors can trigger this immune response mechanism.

Our body is in the continuous interrelations with the external world. Various allergens cause autoimmune responses. Autoimmune disorders may be triggered by internal continuous triggers, such as certain food or medicines. Toxic substances in food can penetrate into the blood flow. Thus, the diet can play an essential role with the autoimmune diseases.

Bowels are protected from the harmful substances. The process of absorption occurs through the micro-fibers of the intestinal walls. With the normal permeability of the bowels there occurs the assimilation of the nutrients and the simultaneous protection from the penetration of pathogens into the blood circulation system. The blood enriched by the food (through the bowels) is processed in the liver, where the majority of the immune complexes (clusters formed when a defense antibody binds to a foreign antigen in an attempt to kill it) are removed. Another way for the intestinal absorption is through the lymph flow. The antigens in the blood and lymph are finally sent toward the liver, which can remove or neutralize them. If the liver does not detain antigens, then they will start circulating through the lungs, the heart, the kidneys and other body organs, where they can destroy the functioning of different systems.

Healthy body with normal bowel permeability and a good liver and kidney function is capable of supporting the minimum level of toxicity in the body, which the immune system can easily control.

Therefore, first of all it is necessary to stop the further entering of the toxins (preservatives and dyes in the foodstuffs, certain medicines, alcohol, bacterial or virus infections etc.) into the body, to start maintaining a healthy diet and to aid the body to detoxify by various natural means (herbal preparations, colon hydrotherapy and various external means).

According to the intoxicating concept the above will help to achieve the disappearance of the auto-intoxication symptoms on the skin - i.e. psoriasis.

Yep, it’s all toxins… I smoke as well but don’t drink. I personally believe that cigarettes impact P. less than the stuff that we consume – food and drinks (especially “bad foods” and alcohol). So, I’ve learned to watch my diet. I’ve cut down on sweets, read meat, fried, and bread. Bread definitely has an impact on my P. I think that improving the diet even by a little can help any psoriasis sufferer.

Thank you for sharing your story!

Good luck!

PS - First I went to an urgent care clinic, this md hadnt a clue, then I went to the ER bc I became seriously ill and he said my only propblem was that my kidneys appeared to be "overtaxed" and I had an enlarged liver. He appeared extremely perplexed by my contagious looking skin condition though. ugh. I'm glad I eventually saw a dermatologist who had finally diagnosed me with "severe"-at that time guttate & plaque psoriasis. Grosse.

So true !!!!! Atleast I know this was the cause of MY psoriasis. I had plaque form on my feet (due to constantly wearing shoes that dont fit me) and got sever guttate on my whole body. I was recovering from an eating disorder (anorexia & bulimia) not only would I not eat, but when I did, I'd use laxatives & force myself to vomit. I would always drink and smoke though. -still do. I guess something like this was bound to happen. It just makes so much sense. My poor body
