There is no scientifically proven data about the influence of a diet on the course of psoriasis.
It is actually often considered that people with psoriasis should not adhere to a strict diet in order to limit the stress from forcing yourself to eat or not to eat certain food products. Generally it is recommended to only limit the use of alcohol and the products containing animal fats.
But some people with psoriasis notice drastic changes in their psoriasis connected to the foods that they consume. Some products make psoriasis flare-up in them, and other products do not do anything. Therefore, people that have noted a connection of their psoriasis with their diet mention some of their observations and suggestions. I have collected and put together the most often suggested, and have incorporated them all in this section - "Diet Therapy" - for your review.
Below you will find information on the psoriasis diet, various advices, examples of different diets as well as a list of products, which they advice to exclude or on the contrary to include into your diet.
There does not exist 100% positive or 100% negative opinions. Everyone has "their own" psoriasis, due to which same product may be considered harmful by one person and completely harmless by another.
The results of diets also vary from no result at all to an achievement of a steady remission. The main problem may be the fact that diets are often combined with different other methods of psoriasis therapy and therefore the pure result of a diet will be "polluted" with the action of other treatments.
However, some positive influence of a special diet with a foregoing of a consumption of a number of products is noted by most people with psoriasis. Furthermore, there are a number of treatment schemes (example - John O.A. Pagano's schemes).
My recommendation is to try to find for yourself the connection of certain products and your psoriasis. Try to define if some products in your diet influence the lesions or regressions or vice versa. There is no "universal diet" therefore we will have to try and see it for ourselves.
My only other advice is - do not stick to the diet if it is bringing you more stress than benefits. For example, I have heard people give advice to exclude practically everything - meat, poultry, fish, candies, chips, Cola etc., and to eat only grains, fruits, vegetables and to drink water. I am afraid that such a diet would fit more for some wild goat than to a normal socially active person.
The choice is yours. Give it a try and find out for yourself.
