Scalp Psoriasis

Scalp Psoriasis is located on the head; however, the lesions can exceed also down to the limits of the hair lines (to the skin of the forehead etc.).

Scalp Psoriasis affects up to 80% of people with psoriasis.

The lesions are pink and covered with abundant scales due to the rapid shedding of dead skin cells. The plaques itch and flake, which makes it look as though a person has severe dandruff (in my opinion, this is the most unpleasant thing about Scalp Psoriasis). Scalp Psoriasis is most visible around the ears, on the forehead and around the hairline.

The plaques merge with one another, and in the worst cases they may cover the entire scalp in the form of a "helmet".

Hair with psoriasis does not change and does not fall out. Sometimes though there may be an increased hair loss, but this is usually a temporary thing.

Scalp Psoriasis often also occurs in the external ear canal, but not inside the ear or on the eardrum.

Scalp Psoriasis Symptoms may sometimes be misdiagnosed as seborrhea or seborrheic eczema.

Sometimes psoriasis begins from the damage of the scalp, and for a long time Scalp Psoriasis may be the only manifestation of psoriasis.
