Scalp Psoriasis Treatment - 20 Tips

  1. Scalp psoriasis treatment involves eliminating or lifting the scales from the scalp before the treatment itself, so that the topical remedies can easily penetrate.

  2. Removing the scales can be accomplished by the use of topical Salicylic acid.

  3. Providing as much moisture to the scalp as possible is vital for the effective Scalp psoriasis treatment.

  4. One among the most typically prescribed and used treatments for Scalp psoriasis are coal tar shampoos, gels, and lotions.

  5. Tar shampoo for Scalp psoriasis treatment should be used every day (or a few times a week as a minimum); the shampoo should be left on the scalp for around 5 minutes.

  6. If the tar Scalp psoriasis treatment does not work, subsequently topical steroids and calcipotriol (Dovobet®, Daivobet®, Taclonex®) may be given.

  7. If there are only several plaques on the scalp, then steroid injections can as well be used for Scalp psoriasis treatment.

  8. Mild Scalp psoriasis may well be dealt with without any medications, by means of an emollient ointment, cream, or oil.

  9. Scalp psoriasis treatment is more comfortable to execute by the use of shampoos, lotions and sprays, compared to the use of creams or ointments.

  10. Alcohol-based solutions, used for Scalp psoriasis treatment, may possibly "sting" the scalp.

  11. Psoriasis can be effectively controlled with UV light (i.e. the UVB "brush"), at the doctors office or at home. Short hair will enable the UVB light to easier get to the scalp.

  12. Usual shampoos may dry your scalp, and as a result make the state of your Scalp psoriasis worse.

  13. A number of oils, when added to any regular shampoo, typically are of assistance to Scalp psoriasis treatment. Add 5-50 drops of essential Tea tree oil or essential Rosemary oil to any regular moisturizing shampoo bottle and shake it well.

  14. Scalp psoriasis is hard to treat as the hair covers the scalp.

  15. Scalp psoriasis treatment demands patience and a "trial and error" method.

  16. Consuming on a daily basis 1 Tbsp of Coconut oil may possibly be of assistance to the Scalp psoriasis treatment.

  17. Introducing an Omega-3-6-9 supplement to your diet can sufficiently aid you with the Scalp psoriasis treatment.

  18. Excimer 308 nm laser can be used effectively for the Scalp psoriasis treatment.

  19. Anti-dandruff shampoos are noted to help some people with Scalp psoriasis (as well as they are known to have no impact on the others).

  20. Scalp psoriasis is treatable, as long as you persevere.

Did the aloe work? I think I will try that also! Where can I buy tar shampoo? Is it expensive?

Hi Citroen.

Thank you for your tip! It should definitely help many people out there!

I read many times about people having great results using coconut oil (externally or internally). I will try your suggestion as soon as I can.

Keep up the great work!

Good luck!

I'm having a really bad flare up of psoriasis right now, which of course includes the scalp. I found this worked wonders! Try it.
-Put 2 tablespoons of Organic Coconut Oil in a mug and place that in a bowl of hot/boiled water.
-Once the coconut oil is not solid, suck it into a plastic syringe(easily found at the chemist)
-Drench your scalp with the oil. Rub it in with your fingertips. Brush it through
-Then, brush through with a nit(lice)comb, getting close to your scalp and brushing through all the flakes/plaques. This takes a while, especially if you have got Rapunzel hair.
-It will look like it snowed on your head, just cover it with a scarf or a hat and leave it for 4 hrs(more or less)
-Hop in the shower, wash your hair with shampoo(I used Tea Tree Shampoo), don't bother using conditioner.
I did this once about 5 days ago and the difference is remarkable. I might continue to do it once a week even if I am not having scalp problems. Hope it helps someone out there!

I went to Hong Kong last month ,and took along travel size TRESemme Mousture Shampoo & Conditioner. after 2nd day I noticed I wasn't as flaky. Remember Ally Sheedy in Breakfast Club? Well I always have that beat. When I got back to the states, and got back into the routine of over the road truck driver. Truck Stop showers , it all came back. Not sure if it's because I don't always get to shower everyday, or if it's something in the water.
I just found this page cause I was checking on SELARA. That drug scares me. So, I'm gonna give this a try. I rather deal with this Psoriasis problem than have a week immune sysem, higher risk for cancer, seizures, & strokes just to nae a few.

I have had success with 100% Argan Oil. Of course, as someone noted in another comment, use of the topical oil has to be done daily or the plaques will return. As we all know, there is no cure for psoraisis! Good luck and God bless.

My daughter is 3y/o and has suffered psoriasis as well as I have off and on over the years and its a hereditary issue. Well we've used Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Tea Tree Oil and it works to keep it under control but it is a constant method of use. If we let up, it returns normally! Its a standard care process.

Good luck to all!

Someone told me that applying coconut oil can also reduce the psoriasis or even cure it. Please describe this.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello V.!

Many people say that Aloe is very good for psoriasis treatment!

Now I am going to definitely give it a try too!

Maybe a shampoo with Aloe, or just an Aloe plant!

Thank you for a wonderful comment!
