If a doctor determines psoriasis at an early stage, then it is possible to prescribe a preventive treatment rather than a therapeutic one.
With mild limited manifestations of psoriasis it is adequate to prescribe a topical therapy in the form of Salicylic ointments, Tar or softening ointments. Treatment is prescribed for the softening of the skin, elimination of peeling, itch, decrease of inflammation and infiltration.
Not all people with psoriasis need intensive medicinal therapy. Patient should understand that not in all cases of psoriasis is it necessary to immediately start treatment, and that an early beginning of therapy does not prevent psoriasis from relapsing.
The presence of single psoriatic lesions, which have existed for a long time on the same places and have not extended to other areas, (the "on-duty plaques"), is an indication to conduct only a non- irritating topical therapy (frequent washing, 1-2% Salicylic ointment, Cup Grease ointment, creams with the vitamins A and D).
For people that have psoriasis in the stationary and regressive stages - i.e. limited vulgar psoriasis or the presence of singular "on-duty" plaques it is frequently sufficient to conduct an external treatment, Health Resort Therapy, Heliotherapy (Sun light), Sea water, Sulfuric baths, special diet, eliminating stresses (i.e. by relaxation) etc.
Heliotherapy (Sun light therapy) is absolutely contraindicated with the summer form of psoriasis.
